Objective

We are searching for a Controller of Financial Reporting at Firstrust Bank. This Controller position will be expected to provide high level Accounting, regulatory, and Profitability Management skills. This is an excellent opportunity to work with a multi-functional organization that is privately owned.

The Controller position is a critical role with primary day-to-day responsibility for planning, implementing, managing and controlling activities at the bank. The ideal candidate should be a career-minded individual who possesses strong managerial skills, interpersonal skills, strong written and verbal communication skills, computer proficiency, can work independently as well as in a team, lead and manage, and has a positive, focused, and organized demeanor.

This person should be technically strong in Generally Accepted Accounting Principles. A professional in this position will become an integral part of the Accounting Department and understands all of its internal and external reports.

This individual will spend considerable time utilizing the ProfitAbility system, engaged in activity-based costing, transfer pricing and profitability measurement through profitability reports and analysis.

Responsibilities/Duties

GAAP Accounting responsibilities will include:

  • Manage and lead Accounting and financial reporting best practice.
  • Implement GAAP accounting.
  • Primary responsibilities will include:
    • Under the leadership of the Accounting SVP, manage all financial reporting responsibilities: GAAP, internal reporting, and managerial and profitability reports.
    • GAAP and Regulatory reports include:
      • Consolidation accounting
      • Monthly, quarterly and annual reports.
      • FDIC Call Report schedules.
      • Annual Report schedules.
  • Manage and supervise Accounting staff as needed pertaining to delegated functions.
  • Manage the annual budget process.

 

 

Managerial and ProfitAbility Functions Responsibilities will include:

  • The Controller will lead and manage the profitability team, systems, and bank-wide requests.
  • This candidate will learn the SAS system profitability model. This system is built in a customized fashion to fit Firstrust’s unique business. The system and model is sophisticated and requires technical and analytical abilities.
  • Maintain highest level of control environment to ensure integrity and accuracy of data through validation and reconciliation controls around profitability calculations and reports.
  • Learn how to modify the model as needed.
  • Maintain various data, product, center, and customer hierarchies.
  • Understand and apply the ABC Qualitative Time Analysis.
  • Prepare Credit Policy Committee (CPC) analysis for all new or amended Commercial deals.
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and semi-annual reports.
  • Develop, implement, and execute Profitability Routines and Reports in order to support the Bank’s Business Plans. This includes, but not limited to Customer, Unit, Location and Product Profitability.

 

Essential Functions

  • Serve as the Accounting group’s technical liaison with Information Technology to develop and maintain Management Reporting routines.
  • Participate in Information Reporting initiatives within the Bank.
  • While performing the essential functions of this position, the employee is regularly required to communicate with other employees at the Bank.

Knowledge - Skills & Abilities

 

The ideal candidate will need a BS in Accounting/Finance, preferably with public accounting experience, or 10+ non-public accounting experience.

  • Bachelor/MBA degree in Accounting
  • Public Accounting/CPA experience preferred
  • Strong understanding of GAAP
  • Bank Accounting experience preferred
  • High level of proficiency in Excel, SQL, pivot tables
