Objective

 

 The Business Banking Small Business Underwriter will be responsible for supporting the Branch Managers, BDM’s, and RM’s in the credit analysis and underwriting of business loan packages up to $1MM in aggregate borrower exposure. The Small Business Underwriter will act as an advocate for the deal flow ensuring that both the external and internal customer needs are met. The Small Business Underwriter will perform assigned duties under the general supervision of the Business Banking Credit Manager.

Responsibilities/Duties

 

Duties include:

  1. Prepares reviews and analyzes the creditworthiness of all small business loan origination requests and renewals.
  2. Responsible for generic screening of renewals and new loan requests, modifications and their approvals.
  3. Works with the Branch Managers and BDM’s in evaluating and servicing the needs of current and prospect borrowers. Helps support Branch Managers and BDM’s in negotiating loan terms and conditions.
  4. Will work with a sense of urgency around the customers’ needs while ensuring we are always exceeding expectations or looking for new ways to do so. Implement standards and processes, which exceed our customers’ expectations.
  5. Demonstrates and creates an environment where teamwork is encouraged by being flexible, collaborating with others and ensuring effective communication to achieve objectives and goals.
  6. Takes an active role in the development of small business skills among the Branch Managers and BDM’s has and is always striving to improve their performance.
  7. Provides on job training to Branch Managers and BDM’s based on requests or whenever added support is needed.
  8. Understands and demonstrates a strong working knowledge of the Bank’s commercial credit and small business credit policies and procedures.
  9. Prepares written approval recommendations, which includes cash flow worksheets for presentation to the credit officer.
  10. Commands ability to evaluate financial statements, historical trends, projections, management performance, industry, cash flow, and collateral analysis.
  11. Orders, reviews and analyzes reports (credit and property searches).
  12. Performs various departmental functions, including loan covenant monitoring, risk rating, stress testing and audit preparation.
  13. Reviews and updates monitoring and compliance of standards such as breaches, covenants etc.
  14. Meets the overall Bank’s profit and strategic goals through satisfactory turnaround of loan requests while satisfy the needs of both internal and external customers.
  15. Act as a role model and always welcome new improvements and implementations to current underwriting process.

 Accountability:

This position is accountable for attaining small business loan goals and developing ongoing tactics to achieve these results.

 

Knowledge - Skills & Abilities

 

Basic Qualifications:

  • Five years of sales and business development experience with a proven history of goal attainment.
  • Successful completion of a formal Bank credit-training program.
  • Extensive knowledge of and experience with credit policies and procedures.
  • Demonstrates the ability to coach, lead, and motivate.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and good oral written communication skills.
  • Knowledge of software/systems required to successfully perform job function.
